Raven Report 1.9 Family Edition - October 24

Dear St. Kateri Raven Families:
October has been such a fun month at school! We've been busy with pumpkin-themed activities, fall crafts, and lots of seasonal learning. The excitement is building as Halloween approaches, and we can't wait to celebrate with our students!
We’d love to invite parents and guardians to join us for our Halloween Parade on Thursday, October 31 at 12:30 PM. Come see all the creative costumes and share in the spooky fun!
Pumpkin Prayer Dear God, As I carve my pumpkin, help me say this prayer: Open my mind so I can learn about You. Take away all my sin and forgive me for the wrong things I do. Open my eyes so Your love I will see. I'm sorry for turning up my nose to all You've given me. Open my ears so Your Word I will hear. Open my mouth to tell others You're near. Let Your light shine in all I say and do! Amen.

Weekly News
• Halloween
o Halloween is an exciting time for our students, and it also offers an opportunity to build school spirit. “All Hallow’s Eve”, or Halloween, is the evening before All Saint’s Day. Hallow means holy. On All Saint’s Day, November 1, we celebrate all the holy men and women who have been named Saints for giving their lives to Christ. Halloween is our preparation for these two Catholic feasts by reminding us that “Light triumphs over darkness” and “Life triumphs over death”. The pumpkin also represents our Catholic mission. We are asked to empty ourselves and to be filled with the light of Christ.
o Students are welcome to come dressed up for Halloween on Friday, October 31. Costumes on Halloween must follow these guidelines:
▪ Culturally sensitive, safe, and appropriate for a Catholic school setting.
▪ No fake weapons, knives, hockey sticks are to be part of the costume.
▪ Costumes are NOT to emphasize violence – weapons or blood and gore.
▪ Costumes are to follow our dress code policy regarding length of dress, shorts, and tops.
▪ We ask that students emulate positive role models through the costume they choose to wear.
o Parents/Guardians are welcome to come and view our costume parade from the presentation stairs at 12:30 PM.

• Dress for the weather - As we move through the fall season, the weather can be unpredictable with chilly mornings, rainy and windy days. To ensure your child stays warm and comfortable during outdoor recess, please send them dressed appropriately each day. Warm layers, jackets, mitts, and toques are especially important.

• Edsby and Seesaw – Our staff will all be using two platforms for communication this school year. Edsby is the platform where you will be
able to see updates on your child’s assessment throughout the school year. This is also where you will view your child’s progress reports in January and June. Our school calendar and office newsletters can also be found on Edsby. Edsby is also used for communication and your child’s learning portfolio for Gr. 4-8 students. Kindergarten-Gr.3 will be using Seesaw for communication and your child’s learning portfolio. Your child’s classroom teacher will be sending home a unique code for each student to connect to Seesaw. Seesaw is a convenient app that you can access easily from a cell phone. You can communicate with your child’s teacher through the app as well if needed. Please get connected with these two important apps as soon as possible to ensure that you can get all the information you need to be engaged with your child’s education this school year. If you are having any difficulty getting connected to Edsby or Seesaw, please call the office at 306-791-1785.
